Iznaola Inducted Into Guitar Hall Of Fame


Retired Lamont faculty member Ricardo Iznaola will be inducted into the the Guitar Foundation of America’s prestigious Hall of Fame during their 2016 National Convention in Denver June 20 – 25.

The Artistic Achievement Award is reserved for performers, composers, pedagogues, and scholars who have made monumental contributions to the development of the art and life of the classical guitar. Ricardo Iznaola will be the 2016 recipient of the Artistic Achievement Award.

For over four decades, Ricardo Iznaola has distinguished himself as an international performing and recording artist, composer, teacher and author. His performances achieved international acclaim since winning top prizes at eight prestigious international competitions early in his career. His books, Kitharologus – The Path to Virtuosity, On Practicing, and Summa Kitharologica, have become standard required texts for the training of guitar professionals at many institutions. Mr. Iznaola’s catalogue of compositions includes numerous works for solo guitar, chamber music with guitar, orchestral and vocal compositions. In 1991 he founded his own recording and publishing company, IGW (Iznaola Guitar Works, iznaolaguitarworks.com), through which his recordings and publications are distributed. In June of 2015, after 32 years of service, Ricardo Iznaola retired as Artist-In-Residence and Chair of the Guitar and Harp Department at the Lamont School of Music of the University of Denver, where he is the Distinguished University Professor in Music, the highest faculty honor bestowed by the university.
